The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) at Leger Education Trust
Empowering "Truly Great Students" Through Adventure and Achievement
At Leger Education Trust, our vision is to develop 'Truly great students in truly great schools.' We believe that education extends far beyond the classroom, and we are proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) at Campsmount Academy and Ridgewood School.
The DofE is the world’s leading youth achievement award, giving our students the opportunity to push their personal boundaries, gain new skills, and build the resilience needed to succeed in adult life.
What is the DofE?
The DofE is a non-competitive, voluntary programme of activities for anyone aged 14 to 24. It is designed to be a personal challenge rather than a race against others; it’s about setting goals and achieving them.
Participants work through three progressive levels:
Bronze (Year 9+)
Silver (Year 10+)
Gold (Year 12+)
The Four Sections (Five at Gold)
To achieve their award, students must complete four key sections (with an additional Residential section for Gold):
Volunteering: Taking action to help the community or environment.
Physical: Improving in an area of sport, dance, or fitness.
Skills: Developing practical and social skills or personal interests.
Expedition: Planning, training for, and completing an adventurous journey in the great outdoors.
Residential (Gold Only): Spending five days away from home on a shared activity with new people.
DofE in Our Schools
Within the Leger Education Trust, the DofE is a thriving part of our enrichment programme. We are committed to making the award accessible and high-quality for all our students.
Expert Support: Our schools provide dedicated DofE Leaders and staff mentors to guide students through their eDofE logs and activity choices.
Directly Licensed Centres: Our schools act as Licensed Centres, meaning we deliver the programme directly with our own experienced staff.
Comprehensive Training: We provide full training for the Expedition section, covering essential life skills such as map reading, first aid, camp craft, and team navigation.
Flexible Opportunities: From weekly drop-in sessions to after-school training, we ensure students have the time and space to successfully complete their awards alongside their studies.
Why Take Part?
The DofE is more than just a certificate; it is a life-changing experience. When a student achieves their award, they develop:
Self-Belief and Confidence: Overcoming challenges on expeditions and learning new skills.
Independence: Learning to lead and take responsibility for their own progress.
Future Readiness: The DofE is highly respected by universities and employers as a mark of commitment and leadership.
Community Spirit: Through volunteering, students connect with the world around them and make a tangible difference.
When you invest in the DofE, you are investing in valuable skills and setting the tone for a lifetime of achievement.
